Identity Crisis ... Outstandin

Kids These Days
Not Yet Rated Alternative | FolkFive men in revealing white shorts and white collared t's, an interesting image indeed. This is the men's tennis circuit, and it was from this cloth that kids these days were cut. They came together under the guise of the racquet club elite, but post-university disillusionment altered their ideals. The white shorts and collared t's were left behind in favour of jeans and shirts of an unkept appearance. Escaping professional tennis and its multi-million dollar possibilities, the kids faded ungracefully into the seediness of their musical endeavour. Trading his racquet for a guitar, Pete Sampras rallied a group of the tour's lesser-knowns and transported them to Vancouver hoping that the temperate weather would find their favour. Mad practice sessions and live shows as tight as the strings on a sixty-two gauge tennis racquet prompted the addition of the final member J, a "wild card" of sorts, and the sound filled appropriately like the seats of a Wimbledon final. Of the band's many musical influences, the more genuine elements of alterna-country and lo-fi endear themselves most prevalently. While the songs are strongly dependent on guitar lines, the vox often seems to bob and resurface effortlessly under the cascading guitar layers before revealing itself as an integral part of the melody. The kids have released a debut EP entitled Octoberman and are busy writing new songs and playing shows. Visit kidsthesedays.ca for more information.Website: http://www.kidsthesedays.ca
