Ron Hynes, is a stirring collection of fourteen soul-baring songs, born of his own life experience. This latest work from the oft described “songwriting master”, features eleven brand new compositions along with a fresh take on three fan favorites. The album was recorded and produced by Paul Mills at The Millstream in Toronto and includes four new “live” tracks recorded at the LSPU Hall in St. John’s, NL.
The self-titled Ron Hynes CD marks his seventh solo album in a songwriting/performing career that spans more than thirty years and is his second release on the Borealis Records label. Ron Hynes was produced and arranged by Paul Mills, (who also produced Ron’s multi award-winning Get Back Change in 2003). Some of the finest musicians in the country were brought together for this new project including Dennis Pendrith (acoustic bass), Curly Boy Stubbs aka Paul Mills (second guitar), Keith Glass (electric guitar), Burke Carroll (pedal steel), Al Cross (drums, percussion), Tom Leighton (piano), Don Reed (fiddle), Ann Lindsay (fiddle) and Wendy Solomon (cello). Harmony vocals are beautifully handled by Neil Donell, Emilie Barlow and Rique Franks with a guest appearance by Cindy Church.
Ron Hynes is a five-time ECMA winner, a five-time Peoples’ Choice winner, a Genie Award winner and a past Juno and CCMA nominee. He holds an Honorary Doctorate from Memorial University, was recipient of the Arts Achievement Award from the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council in 2004, and has garnered numerous awards from MusicNL. Best known for his folk classic Sonny’s Dream, Ron’s songs have been covered by dozens of artists around the world including Emmy Lou Harris, Christy Moore, Mary Black, Denny Doherty, Valdy, Terry Kelly, Shaye, The Cottars and many more.
