Not Yet Rated Alternative | Punk | Rock"...like late-period Beatles, only fucked up." -John "Buck Cherry" Armstrong, The Modernettes, "Guilty of Everything" (New Star Books)“Once one of 'em gets royally screwed over, or goes through rehab, this band will be making tunes that indie rock snobs will be clamouring to hear.” - WESTENDER, “Vancouver’s Urban Voice” Based in Vancouver, in their early twenties, EPOXY RUIN are Adam Sabla (vocals, lead guitar), Katy Horsley (vocals, rhythm guitar), Hayz Fisher (bass, vocals), and Dom Coletta (drums). Though Adam and Katy typically contribute a lot of the material, the group realizes enormous arrangements collaboratively, creating a sound reminiscent of X and Nirvana, the B-52’s and Pixies. EPOXY RUIN debuted with a NewMusicWest 2002 Festival showcase, a nation-wide broadcast of their song “Grety Don’t Know” following shortly thereafter on CBC Radio2. Spring 2003 saw the group solidify their line-up with Dom’s arrival, and by summer they recorded their self-titled debut album in upstate New York, mixed by Charles Newman (Magnetic Fields, Stephin Merritt), and mastered by Gene Paul (John Coltrane, Jim Carroll). Constantly writing, the group recorded at Mushroom and 604 studios in March 2004 with engineer Scott Ternan (Sam Roberts, Fear Factory). On the eve of the resulting four-song EP, the WESTENDER's Elaine Corden remarked the group had “energy and enthusiasm to spare,” said enthusiasm bringing new converts with every performance. The group dabbled in film, collaborating on an eye-catching video for debut leadoff track “Acerbic” with director Ryan Gander (Swollen Members). With their eyes set on finding the right label to distribute their music, EPOXY RUIN is focused on being a true career band.
