Not Yet Rated Jazz | Rock | SwingThe singer is possessed, lurching about the stage like a crazed street preacher, blaring out drunken tales of ribald revelry. The horns are braying in celebration of all that is good, pure and sleazy. The upright bass bumps along to the bounce of the dance floor, punctuated by the steady, walloping swing of the drummer whipping the band into a ball of festive bliss. The guitarist keeps his cool, weaving plucky runs and wide chords through the rumble-rumble-testifyin' twentieth century funnel of sound that is The Molestics. There are reasons why this band was nominated as the best performing act at the Pacific Music Association Annual Awards. The reasons become apparent when this enigma is seen live. Are they a swing band? A bar band? Traditionalists? Anti-traditionalists? The contemporary answer to Punk Rock? Purveyors of Hokum? The death of rock? Could they be the rebirth of live music?
