Press Release Puentes Brothers-‘Morumba Cubana’ Nominated for Best Global Album: West Coast Music Awards 2001 Juno Awards 2001 Canadian Independent Music Awards Voted Best Band At Beaches International Jazz Festival

Having recently returned from Toronto and the Juno Awards ceremony, where they were nominated for Best Global Album, ALMA recording artists the Puentes Brothers return to the east for yet another visit. While in Toronto they will be showcasing their talents on two nationally televised programs, ‘Open Mike with Mike Bullard’ (March 23) and CTV’s Canada am (March 27). With nationally televised shows such as ‘Vicki Gabereau’ under their belts they will be sure to impress viewers across the country. In addition to television coverage they will be heard on CBC Radio’s ‘This Morning’ on March 23 and in April on the internationally broadcast program ‘Global Village’ which has an average listener ship of 1.5 million people.

In Collingwood, ON on March 22 the Collingwood Jazz Society presents the Puentes Brothers to perform one of their high energy, crowd pleasing shows. On March 23 the brothers are proud to perform at Toronto’s prestigious Bamboo Club in an event hosted by Latin DJ extraordinaire Billy Bryans. Their series of live shows continues upon their return to the west coast in early April. On April 4 they will perform at the Pacific Contact Music Conference in Burnaby, BC. There they will be given the opportunity to showcase their talents to music buyers from all over the Pacific North West and North America. From there Vancouver’s Starfish Room welcomes the twin brothers for a guaranteed, Friday-night, sell-out show on April 6. On April 7 another stellar live performance will take place at Port Moody’s Inlet Theatre. The following week, on April 15, Alexis and Adonis return to their Canadian hometown of Victoria, as local heroes to perform at Legends. With little time to settle in to home-life they are off again on a tour throughout British Columbia and Alberta beginning on April 18 in Smithers, BC and ending on April 26 in Nelson, BC. Throughout the spring and summer the twins will perform at key Folk and Jazz Festivals all across Canada and the U.S.

More recently, the Puentes Brothers’ debut album, ‘Morumba Cubana’ has been nominated for yet another award for Best Global Album by the West Coast Music Awards. The Pacific Music Industry Association has asked the brothers to perform along with Boogie-Woogie Jazz Piano great Michael Kaeshammer at the awards ceremony on May 13. ‘Morumba Cubana’ has also been nominated for World Album of the Year, by the first ever Canadian Indie Music Awards and was the #1 Charting Canadian World Music Album for 2000 on the Mundial World Music Charts. This string of nominations has helped contribute to the ongoing success of ‘Morumba Cubana’. With strong national coverage, a high-energy live show, a #1 Album and a continuous tour schedule, including most major summer festivals, the Puentes Brothers are sure to make a big impact in the year 2001!
