Terra Grimard
Not Yet Rated Pop | RockTerra Grimard has been busy turning inspirations into music since the tender age of twelve when she first discovered a knack for transforming lifes''s little stories into music."I may have been the quiet one in class, but when I got home I had something to say on the piano, and I could sing you my stories." This voice has now matured to become a 20-year-old woman who can barely restrain her zest for living, learning, and especially for music. Last summer her music took her across Canada as opening act for Allison Crowe''s Crying in a Rainstorm 2002 tour. Allison, a rising star from Nanimo, and Terra first crossed paths at the Women Rock concert in Vancouver where Terra was featured as the first recipient of the Women Rock Scholarship in March of 2001. For the Crying in a Rainstorm tour, Terra played solo piano and sung songs off of her "Sitting Here" EP, released in June 2002. After receiving warm reception everywhere she went, winning hearts with her warm stage presence and unique blend of pop/rock and jazz influences, she will be touring Canada in the Summer of 2003. This tour will also feature her quartet with Georgia Corba on bass, Dan Sia on drums and Kris Ruston on guitar. The opening act for the tour will be Lori-Anne Jackson, another Vancouver artist met at the Women Rock concert. Terra, now residing in Vancouver B.C, grew up on acreage outside of Kamloops B.C. She started taking classical piano lessons when she was five and vocal training when she was eleven. Her first musical creations became songs that her and her younger sister, Carly, and her would perform. Known as "The Grimard Sisters," the duo played gigs throughout B.C. through their teen years. Terra and her quartet are now studying jazz at Capilano College excepting drummer Dan Sia who studies at the University of British Columbia. The four of them will be recording a new album for the tour. The music will be strong with funk and jazz textures interlaced with lilting melodies, "a blend of hybrid jazz" is how Adrian Du Plessis, Allison Crowe''s manager, described Terra''s style. The tour will span Canada, reaching intimate audiences at coffee shops and small clubs. Website: http://www.terragrimard.com
