hi mj ~ I'm down (physically, only) with bronchitis that may have become "atypical pneumonia" - mostly, I'm wiped out - but, musically, everything is great, and, at this particular moment, I'll feeling not bad at all. Here's hoping it's a return to health.
cya soon, cheers, Ad

In the Bleak Midwinter, another Tidings track is now online @ www.allisoncrowe.com/bleak96.mp3 and www.allisoncrowe.com/bleak128.mp3
In the Bleak Midwinter dates back to the 1800s ~ it's a poem by Christina Rossetti set to music by Gustav Holst, arranged by Allison...
In the bleak midwinter In the bleak midwinter frosty wind made moan, earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone: snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow, in the bleak midwinter, long ago.
peace, Ad

I was just meaning, mabel, that without you and mj posting, this site would have been mighty lonely ( :
there's not a lot of dialogue otherwise - and it's good to have people actually communicating!
so, don't mind my hehee - that's just what I say when I'm happy (among other things hahaha)
ok, best wishes for the season, to you, and to you, Mj, and to all who visit here, make music, love music...
peace, Ad

hi mj ~ thanks for the greetings ( :
I don't know why other people are silent, but, I do know that most of this year was a colossal energy drain that kept me from my usual activities. And, this discussion board seems to have experienced the same slow-down as other board I frequent (eg. vancouverindie.com)
it's a good thing you and Mabel have kept things going! hehee
I'll try to keep up with things a little more, now that I'm back with Alley and her band steering our own ship once again.
best of the season to you,
cheers, Adrian

The six songs on Tidings are a mix of traditional carols and modern songs (that veer off from the pine cones and holly berries track but which are exhilarating in their own spiritual way): Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen); Silent Night; In the Bleak Midwinter; O Holy Night; Shine A Light (Jagger/Richards); Angel (Sarah McLachlan).
Being an artist who usually performs original material, it's an unique experience to interpret the songs of others as Allison did for this special recording.
Happily, Leonard Cohen fans have embraced her version of Hallelujah, as have fans of Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright (both of whom recorded versions cherished by people). Hopefully BR fans will also enjoy this version.
Accompanying the release of Tidings will be an one-hour tv special to air nationally in Canada during the Christmas/holiday season.
More word on that in a few days time...
Thanks for listening!
peace, Adrian

Allison Crowe and her band got together one night recently and recorded "Tidings: 6 Songs for the Season", an EP that is now available through MapleMusic, Great White Noise and @ http://www.allisoncrowe.com
As is the way with the trio, the songs were recorded live-off-the-floor, and Allison did her solo songs in single, first, take.
Here are URLs to a couple of different-sized files of the first track, a cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah:
