I can't believe how many nads they've added! At this rate, the lips will only get 15 minutes on stage!

I feel bad for toronto musicians. With bands like Broken Social Scene and Stars getting massive exposure in the US and UK I am a little surprised that no local acts are being given the chance to shine. Which is too bad because BSS have a MONSTER of a live show. Perhpas one of the best I've seen that didn't use any kind of special effects/staging, etc.

I still think it's gonna be a great day. The money pisses me off, and the er... aged nature of the lineup (Justin Timberlake is probably young enough to be the grandson of some of the other performers!).

Here's a thought... they're shutting down sheppard so that people can walk across to the park. Perhaps T.O. musicians should set up "unplugged" performances along the way to keep people entertained! Although... I'm not sure if all the local turntablists would be able to pull off an acoustic set...

Sorry Ryman, won't reconsider! I am really against giving the Stones that kind of money, it's outrageous.

But you are a Stones fan so I'm sure you and all the other Stones fans will have a good time. I really would like to see the Flaming Lips, just not at this thing.

I doubt the attempt is to please everyone since a lot of people appear to be pissed of that the thing is even happening. I'm not one of those people of course, being a Stones fan, and a Lips fan and a RUSH fan ... i guess you may be referring to having a complete wanker like Timberlake on a bill with bands who can actually rock?

mj dude, you otta reconsider because man that show is going to ROCK! That's if they do it right. And even if they don't the line up are such legends of rock and roll! The only down side is that fucking dork Justin Timberlake. Who the hell put that little prick on the bill and WHY????? I don't even think gettiing dressed up in a dolphin suit by the FLs can redeem that little wanker.

Yes, definitely get Yoshimi! So good! It's one of those albums I've been listening to a lot of lately (that and Grandaddy's new album...). Great stuff.

As for the show... it could be VERY interesting... the lips and timberlake were on the same episode of Top of The Pops earlier this year and Wayne Coyne got him to dress up in a giant dolphin suit and play bass with the band. I'm no fan of timberlake, but again, $21.50 to see him dress up as a dolphin seems like money well invested. hehe.

Well said Newman. I'm not going to that show on principal, but The Flaming Lips are definitely the most tempting element. I just can't abide supporting those other assholes in gouging our city. Ten fucking million!!

I do want to go out and get Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots though!

What's so great about the Lips? Hmmm... I'd find that hard to define. They're music's just from another planet. They're one of those unique voices in music who are instantly identifialble once you hear them. I adore them, so I won't ramble at lengths. But I will say that there are several bands that music "needs" and the Flamig Lips are one of them. Even though it will be under harshest daylight, I will definitely be loving every second of the flaming lips' show (see, how's that for an open mind... I already know I'm gonna enjoy it! hehe.... biased!) Anywasy, 10 million squid is onscene for a show, but $21.50 to see that show... that makes it aaaaallll better.

The Flaming Lips kick ass, or at least they did, I actually haven't listened to the Flaming Lips in quite a while, I'm glad Newman mentioned them cause I had almost forgotten how much I used to dig them.

Way back when someone lent me a copy of Telepathic Surgery and it just went on from there.

are you sure $10 million is for the Rolled Stones alone? or for the whole event? holy !@#$% that's alot of heroin for one band.

what is so great about the Flaming Lips, other than their name?

Christ, I still cannot fucking believe our collective levels of government and business have come up with 10 fucking MILLION dollars to pay these guys AND they are charging money to the public on top of it!

What gives??

I don't care if all of my favorites get added to that bill (I WOULD like to see RUSH and The Flaming Lips though, really I'd just rather see the Flaming Lips) I refuse to go on principal that I just don't think the Stones deserve that kind of money. All I can say is it better generate a fuck of a lot more than 10 million back into our local economy. It would have to generate more than that in one day to make it worth while.

Yes, quite the line up for $21.50. Why don't I know the Flaming Lips? What's their hit song, where are they from? I can hardly get into a discussion about Rush, too much of a rush, I think of Geddy Lee and my brain goes, "work, work, work,.. see? it can be done", I love that he/they are Canadian. And what is so freaky about AC/DC? Angus' dance moves or his outfit, but don't they make you want to party like it's 199... Grade 9??

Raggadeath was my favorite band a few years back, didn't have the opportunity to see them. Either of you going to the Stones concert next month?

Mine was definitely the Ludovico Treatment upstairs at the El Macombo a few years back.

The Rolling Stones at the Air Canada Centre in 1999 is a close second.

:)

Anyone out there have a favourite concert they've seen in T.O.? Or perhaps a Toronto band you saw somewhere else in the world?

Personally, my favourite show was probably the Flaming Lips at the Opera House in 1999 and a close second would have been the Doves/Strokes show at the same venue.

Ok, so it's been a dry couple of years, but an honourable mention needs to go to Royksopp for showing me just how alive and vibrant electronic music can be in a live context.

oh... and Stars are awesome live. yeah.
