'tis true mj.

I wish people would throw their crutches away when they really don't have a broken leg.

I think some men may use that as an excuse to drink, but really we drink because of ourselves.

We can try to lay the blame elsewhere, but our faults lie not within our stars but in ourselves.

I can't deny that I sometimes numb/dumb myself out too Mabel. Is that a guy thing? I didn't think it was, I thought everyone did that. Maybe not.

I do have lots of buddies who are almost permanently numb so maybe it is. I'll say it again, I like your philosophy way better than mine. I admire your outlook a lot. You're a real gem girl!

Hi mj. This may not make you feel better but the fact that you feel ANYTHING is a very encouraging turn-on for me. I have a jaded outlook, based on reality, that most people especially MALE people are NUMBED RIGHT OUT (booze, booze, booze) and as soon as they feel over-whelmed or distressed with the state of ANYTHING - they drink drink drinkdrinkdrink drink drink, and think they look cool while dumb, er, numb - ing themself out. If the world wasn't addicted to avoiding truth and effort - things could change.

mj.... a jerk is all about response. That's all it is. If you don't give it that - it won't exist.

No offence to Brittany but I don't think she is a very good singer. She does a fairly good impersonation of a human though.

Also last night I dreamt Michael Jacksons father made a public appearance to discuss the crisis surrounding his son - and he had a nose almost exactly like Michaels (alittle darker) ! Everyone sort of went quiet and felt somewhat sheepish.. because it was evident Michael was his odd self naturally; thus innocent. It was the image of his father that got him off the hook.

I found myself in the karaoke place again last night. It's in the basement of the Firehall, which 100 years ago used to be the jail. All the cells are right there - the pool table, bar, deep fry machine, stage - all built around the cells. Very weird. So I frequent the place and last night the karaoke queen was doing all the work - she was very encouraging so I picked out 'TIE A YELLOW RIBBON' by Tony Orlando. She said as long as she has done her karaoke gig noone has ever picked that tune, and she didn't even know she had it. I thought I did not too bad until Garth Cowboy said I sounded like Brittany Spears! !@#$%

Very nice sentiments Mabel. I like your philosophy better than mine. I wish I wasn't so affected (or is it effected) by the assholes of the world, but I am. I can't help it. I try to avoid them as much as possible and surround myself with good people, but those "mean" people have a way of getting up in my face anyway. Jerks just bug my ass, and I don't know what to do about that.

and so one thing I know mj, (unlike Purple Rain) is that there is no hiding from the world.

The good thing about this is - your world is as wide as your arms can reach and your eyes can see. Likewise for me. I've chosen to stop struggling. I'm leaving the struggling for the mean people. They can have it. The bigger picture of the world mj, is up to our imagination. I imagine the bad guys lose. They may take some of us with them, but I'm not fighting. I'm playing. And creating whatever my arms and eyes can. This way - I can't be robbed. This isn't to say if I had a loaded gun and Bush was within plain range of it.... ------ ----- -----!@#$% !!!!

gee mj, I was going to type how I BUTCHERED Purple Rain last night in front of a packed room, how I didn't even KNOW I was playing Purple Rain until Buddy stops dead in the middle of the tune and then sings "PURPLE RAIN, Purple Ra - in..." !@#$% then I did even WORSE because I realized TRULY didn't know what the !@#$ I was doing... egad! (we redeemed ourselves with 3 improvised Zeppelinesque instrumentals immediately after the bomb)... luckily music always rise to the top...

I don't know what the solution is Mabel. The world seems to have gotten a lot meaner. I notice here in Ontario since The Mike Harris regime took power and now the legacy it has left in it's wake, this province seems a LOT uglier.

Yet people keep electing George Bushes (although that election wasn't quite on the up and up) and Mike Harrises even though the results are negative for the majority of the citizens. Getting people involved is tricky, they want to hide away and not deal with it because it's easier. i know I feel that way myself at times.

I listened to a program on CBC the other day about how the number of women in politics is not only stagnating, but decreasing. Right away I thought "who the hell would get involved in politics if they are attempting to IMPROVE conditions of our society?!" It's an old mens fart club and the sooner they die the fresher the air for the planet. Perhaps we can begin a discussion forum that is notification of ACTIVE ACTIONS being taken to combat the overwhelming apathy you've mentioned, mj. I'll start: Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003. S. H. E. a Concert of song, healing, essence. A Celebration of Women Celebrating ( I'll skip the details for now) This is planned to be the first of a monthly series, on the 21st., may sound a bit flaky but I'll be there so...

other anti-apathy listings could include news about recycling, cloth diapers, anarchy, fund-raisers...

It's true Adrian, I noticed the same thing myself. My own interest dropped off (winter blahs setting in? Depressing world news? Who knows...)

I actually agree with you Mabel I too find 9/11 a little too convenient in light of what occured afterward. Plus there is a fair amount of evidence that seems to point in that direction. Perhaps we should start a politics board on this site, maybe wthat will generate more discussion. Appathy seems to be taking over as people become more overwhelmed.

That's nice, Adrian. I haven't known a year that wasn't crazy, but perhaps there is a specific reason like the 9/11 Revenge Pact keeping people from trust & discussion. Much stranger - and more global - results are occuring as we type. All this war from what I am convinced, was a self-inflicted attack to justify planetary domination of fuel.

ah well, we rotate on, I personally just need to RAWk frequently and hard, to belong to this demented & suicidal species, like I did last night @ the Starlight Lounge with Brady Valgardson and Dale Stinson.

Bush's war, who knows...

my year has been crazy ~ maybe a lot of people are experiencing something similar

you two are keeping the discussion flame flickering ( :

I rocked the house last night @ the Tongue & Groove; with Tyler Bird, Todd Robinson, Todd Carter & Brad the drum slut. I love waking up 6 hours later and my being (guts, world) still undulating, pounding, rocking - a little quieter but can still feel the bass. LOVE it.

I went up for Karioke for the first time in my life last night. I knew the only song I could get into would be the Stone Temple Pilot tune which goes: " WOULD SHE SMELL ALO - OO --OONE, GOT TIME, TIME, TIME TO WAIT FOR TOMORROW, WHE - EN THE DOGS DO SMELL HER, WILL SHE SMELL ALO-OO-OONE?" I'm still not sure of the words because someone bet me ten bucks it was called 'Interstate Highway' so I wrote that down but when I was called up a different tune started !@#$% didn't know it at ALL but the bar was singing it so loudly and some guy grabbed the other mike - so I think I did pretty good.
