The most awesomest band ever!! When they play it's like everyone else disappears and it's hard to even remember stresses of the day.

So Mabel, what's new?

Heather: not sure if you'll see this, I can't get the night off but I can leave early so I plan to drop by your show. Not sure when you go on, but hopefully I can catch a few songs!

redheather: very diplomatically put. I don't agree however that how your band mates perform is your responsibility necessarily. I guess as band leader ultimately it is your responsibility to put a good band together and if you don't it's on your own head, but there is only so much you can account for in others.

Mabel: yes I was planning on saying hello and reintroducing myself. I won't know until tomorrow night though if I can get the night off.

Geez you guys!

What can I say to that?! You are talking about my bandmates who I adore! I mean I was not happy with how that CMW show went, but it was a rush job, andI feel the responsibility for that falls on my shoulders for the most part. But we are progressing and things are coming together. We are re-tooling to try to get a sound we're happy with, and that's been a long and difficult process, and continues to be. But things are good, it's all sounding better and we're all looking ahead!

redheather doesn't appear to have posted anything in a while, so I will leave her a message in her own forum to alert her to the discussion surrounding her band! I'd be curious to know what she thinks of them too...

not at all, mj. If I was Heather I'd be flattered, not insulted by your comments, but I would also certainly be asking is the band a 'diamond in the rough' or scrap metal? I'm pretty sure she appreciates your opinion mj, don't worry,

and thanks for your concern regarding the full moon, spring, and me...

I did not mean to suggest Heather's band members are terrible Mabel, they weren't at all, they just weren't collectively up to a level that did her justice. Or that's how it came across to me (and to the two people I was with). They were all very competent, but she had a real spark that didn't seem to be followed by her band mates, or like I said it may just have been a lack of practice. She did tell me they had not all played together as a group for very long and that she didn't feel well rehearsed. So as I watched her I found myself imagining her with a shit hot band and I thought "now that would be something".

Clearly I'm not the only one to hold that view, gregorb's comment in the Heather Morgan forum seemed to suggest he was thinking the same.

And Heather if you read this I don't mean it as a put down, I think your talents for song writing are really something, to the point where I was knocked out when you said all the songs you sang that night were your own originals, that combined with your voice and presence is a powerful package. I'd just like to see you with a better band to let your talents really shine!

I'm not looking to piss anyone off I'm just being honest. Mabel let me ask you this: did you feel I was being insulting?

Mabel: my last posting was a very out of it garbled way of saying: make sure he treats you right!

Unless you want to sleep with him just because you want to then fine, but make sure you get something that's good for you out of it because it's often hard to tell guy's intentions where sex is concerned (I'm just trying to look out for ya girl!)

I'm often not very coherent when I get off work!

Yeah I guess men aren't so fixed to the seasonal pull thing. It's all a mystery to me. Men are pretty much seasoned all the time, except when we're too tired or too drunk. But it is a myth that men will fuck anything (okay some men maybe, but they are the exception in my view, and I think men like to perpetuate that myth for some bullshit macho reason), I think men are probably a lot less selective than women, but still men are selective too. At least I am. So trust your instincts re your co-worker. Or actually I should clarify and say men are selective with partnering and MUCH less selective with whom we sleep with.

As for the bill on the 20th it's a band called Heather Morgan and The Company of Men and also on the bill is a band called Stratochief.

I saw Heather Morgan at CMW and was very impressed with her. I was less impressed with her band however. She was a lot better than her band which was a real shame. They seemed to drag her down, like watching someone trying to take flight but being anchored down by some dull weight. Or maybe they all just needed more practice. But she really has something, and she has a wonderful voice and writes some really great classic sounding songs. A name to watch I'd say.

what cracks me up - thick on the sarcasm here - is that I wasted 3 or 4 hours contemplating that stupid question last night (co-worker/no co-worker) when all I had to do was go outside and see the near full moon beaming in the warm spring night. Everything was explained to me in about 3 seconds. I'm pretty sure if you look in a biology book under Female Animal Seasonal Behaviors you'll find my picture. One can only think about Burning Spear and his Burning Band for so long.

Who's on the bill for the 20th?

Mabel, you crack me up! Yes of course I think you should have sex with your co-worker!

As for my job, it does have it's benefits, it will lead somewhere and I won't have this current schedule forever (plus I have student loan payments, rent etc). But I am kind of losing it, so I am going to try to get off for the 20th to see a singer/songwriter I enjoyed the last time I saw her and she is also playing with another band I wouldn't mind checking out too so I'll get two for the price of one (if I can get there).

I hope you plan to let me know how it goes with this co-worker?

I'm also interested in your description of your music, so you sing and recite poetry over bass lines? Very cool!

mj, are you sure this job is worth so much cramp on your style? what's wrong with a day job?? life's too short to be miserable. I am not saying you are miserable, far from it...

yes, on July 29 2002 I heard my voice singing. Strangest thing I ever heard, now I kind of like it, and work on it daily. What kind of music? The kind that goes with a slappin' funkin' jazz metal 5-string fender bass, poetry, 2 amps and an fx pedal used very sparingly.

so do you think I should have sex with this co-worker of mine?

Sadly not up to much Mabel, my hours at work are really cramping my ability to see live music. I missed NXNE due to work (I've attended NXNE faithfully for several years now except this year). It's bumming me out. I can occasionally catch the last few songs of a band, but it's not the same.

So you sing? I didn't realize that. What kind of music are you into?

hi mj. thanks for wondering about me. No, I didn't meet anyone at the wedding in the way that you mean. I was the last person dancing however, and personally considered my dress to be the cutest. I only have one dress. I made sure it could go to a wedding or funeral - Sporty Spice would like it. I got up and sang one song, had some roast beef, lots of grapes. There is this co-worker though mj, he's mentioned a couple of times recently that I make him horny. I'm going to have to say I believe him - I saw the proof. I checked him out on my Wetness Scale - and he is a 2 1/2. This really is not too bad. The scale goes to 3, and moves in 1/4 increments. If you are wondering why it doesn't go to a typical 10, it's because on a very, very rare occurance (twice)... there has been a 10 out there.

so what have you been up to, mj?
