From the moment The Posies' Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer walked on the stage this past Monday night it was a free form adventure that barely paused even while Ken left the stage in search of more limes for his bottomless drink. This was certainly one of the most entertaining acoustic shows I've ever encountered.
Looking around at the roomful of their fans I couldn't help notice how many local musicians had come out for the event. People like Veal's Luke Doucet, Pluto's Ian Jones, Limblifter's Kurt Dahle and singer songwriters Rich Hope and Adrienne Pierce to name a few. Everyone soaking up the music of these two long running wonders with voices as smooth as butter.
One fan took it upon himself to provide Ken and Jon with and endless line of tequila shots throughout the show. As the evening progressed, so did the banter. Eventually between every song there came a joke or story of their checkered past. Border crossing fiasco's, first joints – somewhere out on the prairies. It was like being at a ho-down kitchen party full of laughter, story telling, dancing and song.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who looks forward to their next hootenanny.
