The most awesomest band ever!! When they play it's like everyone else disappears and it's hard to even remember stresses of the day.

Emmy Lou Harris @ The Commodore
September 30, 2000
From the moment Emmylou Harris walked out on stage to a sold out audience at The Commodore one thing was clear: this woman has more grace in her pinky finger than most of us will ever see in our lifetime.

Public opinion has not been kind to most female country artists but Harris has consistently stood out from the pack of style-over-substance down-home divas.

Shania may top the charts, and Dolly may have her own theme park, but Emmylou has the untouchable talent to produce sublimely beautiful country music.

Leading off with music from her latest critically acclaimed release, Red Dirt Girl, Harris had the audience in the palm of her hand from note one. A superbly tight backing band, including gifted guitarist/ singer Buddy Miller played perfectly with ethereal, seemingly effortless vocals.

At over sixty years old, Emmylou is still going strong, and Friday night she delivered a show packed with countless spine-tingling moments. From the perfect harmony of Love Hurts to the touching ode to her father, Bang the Drum Slowly, there was no danger of Harris losing her audience.

Honey -voiced ballads aside, Harris and her band are sleek, professional musicians who can take the tone from mournful to joyful in a matter of seconds. Harris' more up-tempo numbers, mostly from Red Dirt Girl, are the stuff of country legend. Never self-parodical or cartoonishly Nashville, interpretations of both her own and others work are perfectly balanced.

The most striking thing about the Commodore show was the audience that it left breathless. Ranging in age teens to seniors, the diverse crowd was a tribute to Harris' broad appeal
