Misfits Headline Romping Punk Lineup At Richards'

It was a boisterous evening of well oiled punk machinery this past Tuesday night as the veteran Misfits capped a solid bill of hard driving punk and had the usually sedate floorboards at Richards' heaving.
 The jam packed night got off to a great start with openers Guy Smiley. The Winnipeg natives had energy to spare and busted out the type of riot-inciting punk that lets you forget that bands like Blink-182 even exist. Look for these guys in the future. A sturdy live act who are just beginning to explore their musical capabilities.
 REO Speedealer delivered a fast efficient set. No cute stuff with these guys. They played hard, the way that only a southern band can.
Despite the strength of the opening acts, the night (as the numerous t-shirts suggested) belonged to the Misfits. Loud and raucous, they blazed through a full set that kept the moshing, crowd-surfing audience on their toes. They played the classics and the favourites, kept the crowd happy and the devil signs saluting.
 One can't help but wonder, however, what incited Jerry Only to take the band out on the road again. The spandex pants and goulish face paint suggest a different era, and many of the fans (myself included) were barely out of diapers during the Glen Danzig period. Perhaps it bordered on being a nostalgia tour (Iron Maiden) or maybe Onlys wallet was getting thin. Either way, the Misfits are a hard working, rocking and rolling band. A definite crowd pleaser, and a surefire way to get your punk rocks off.
