Lab Rats Come Up Short As Nunstalker Pulls A No Show At The Java Joint
By Joe Martin Contributing Writer

The Lab Rats @ The Java Joint
The Frosted Sluts started the night with the type of unplanned, immature set that you can only expect from a band full of fifteen year olds. Unfortunately, these guys aren't fifteen. They're twenty.
It's hard to decide whether the highlight of their show was the impromptu spitting contest between the bass player and a girl in the crowd, or the constant burp and fart noises that each member of the Sluts attempted to woo the crowd with.
The night began to take a slight turn for the better, however, when East Vancouver's Small Man Syndrome stepped on stage. The trio, while lacking in stage presence, did deliver a tight set filled with well written rock songs in the vein of Wide Mouth Mason crossed with the Black Crows. Small Man Syndrome were unfortunately grossly out of place on this night. This was made evident by the slow depletion of the crowd.
By the time the third act, The Lab Rats made it to the stage; the audience had dwindled to about fifteen people. The majority of it friends of the Rats themselves. The result was an uninspired show that the band, no doubt, hoped to finish quickly. The crowd seemed to be doing no more than waiting patiently while the Lab Rats played through such potential classes as My BMX and Car On Fire.
This near perfect evening was made complete upon the discovery that headliners Nunstalker had failed to show. In total, this was an interesting night, but one that will no doubt be soon forgot.
