Innovative British rock act Radiohead will tour North America for the first time in three years, following the June 5 release of their new album Amnesiac - a quick follow-up to October's smash hit release Kid A. Though no singles were released to radio, Kid A bowed in at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart.
The band further scrapped convention when it decided not to tour behind Kid A, instead performing only a select few international shows. Amnesiac, which frontman Thom Yorke said was recorded in the same sessions as Kid A, features several songs that return to a guitar-driven rock sound - though the forays into electronica that marked the last album are still present.
Radiohead remain one of the most adventurous bands of our era - their charm derives from the way they absorb their outside influences, soaking them up rather than trying to imitate them. They bring this effect not only to the music they put on record but also to their live performance. The tour supporting Amnesiac sees Radiohead performing in unique and alternative concert locations.
The selection of Vancouver's Thunderbird Stadium is in keeping with the desire to create a rare and distinctive concert atmosphere. The Radiohead concert experience is further enhanced with a special treat for devoted fans - a barricaded area at the front of the stage billed as "The Headzone". Initial ticket-buyers will be able to purchase tickets in "The Headzone" ... these will be snapped up quickly - so be prepared to buy your tickets early.
