Awesome!
Bottleneck - late nights, early mornings

By David McPherson

Release Date: September 1, 2003

A mixture of roots-rock, country and blues, late nights, early mornings is a varied and accomplished sophomore effort by a Vancouver band bound for success.

Scott Smith and Robyn Carrigan alternate with the lead vocals throughout the 13 tender tracks. Smith's best lead is the catchy, and folksy "These Dreams of Mine," - a personal story about following ones dreams - and the title track, "late nights, early mornings".

"Your Man" is a bluesy number that echoes Bonnie Raitt and showcases Carrigan's soul-wrenching vocals. "Another Day" is another standout song that shows Carrigan expanding her vocal range and sounding like Joni Mitchell. "Am I Blue?," is a sultry country-blues number that sticks to you. "You'll Get by" features the two singers carrying a tune together with heartfelt harmony that is laced with love.

Juno-award winning Vancouver musician Jesse Zubot who also lends his fine violin to Bottleneck produced late nights, early mornings.

As the album's title suggests, this album is best listened to in the wee hours of the morn to fully appreciate its beauty.

late nights, early mornings is out now on Black Hen Music.
