Richard's on Richards hosted a commendable showcase of hip hop's finest last week.

Blackalicious was outstanding - a collective of young artists who're clearly defining todays music. Their live show was presented with unadulterated showmanship and some serious vocal action.

Versatile, up front, streaming a tight vocal that followed the flow like sticks in a stream. They spent the evening cooly pacing back and forth across the stage, dialing their people right into the mix. They have some well crafted, street smart tunes that run with textured beats, cuts and rhymes.

A great show.

Del (The Funk Homosapien...) has been at the forefront of the hip hop scene for quite sometime, and if his performance at Richard's is any indication he'll be a force to be reckoned with for some time to come.

Incorporating assorted musical styles, blending and fusing the beats, the man is lick. Choice sounds and timely, astute lyrics about unity and self-preservation.

The show was dope, if your into hip hop and you didn't make either of these shows...
