Wintersleep are a band on the rise. They are from Halifax, the band have toured relentlessly over the past few years with the likes of Pearl Jam and the Hip. This year Wintersleep made the break thru to the masses, with 5 Nominations at The East Coast Music Awards and a solid third release “ Welcome to The Night “.
Wintersleep was here in Vancouver at the Commodore last week. They put on a good show; however, if they could limit the self-indulgent jamming and simply get on with the songs some of us wouldn’t fall asleep. Don’t get me wrong the band has some awesome tunes, they just lactate the rhythm a little to far. The songs are strong with similar structure therefore somewhat predictable, regardless there is just enough lax to wander thru the sound-scapes tethered.
“Weighty Ghost” has been getting lots of radio-play, but this isn’t the best idiom of the bands wherewithal. The song is a little lazy and very safe. . Heavy riffs distorted licks and pounding drums; all the elements are there. < br> I still think their self- titled debut release endorses what the band is really about. Having said my piece, I am still rapt and looking forward to hearing what comes next from Wintersleep.
