Since we won't be attending the show Friday night I decided to post a review of the CD/ AC/DC "Black Ice "
From start to finish AC/DC 's latest release Black Ice is rock and roll. AC/DC's signature sound had defined rock and roll they have been an integral part of music today. They are as current as the day they left Australia on their first tour. The packaging, its very black. It has a few shots of the band a few artistic shots of guitars. The AC/DC logo and lightening bolt in red are repeated throughout the layout, its pretty slick.
The CD kicks off with Rock and Roll Train , a catchy song with crunchy guitars. Skies on Fire really rocks . The song has that meat and potatoes drum quality , tangled up with a few really integral bass lines. The song rocks from start to finish with that formula that works so well for AC/DC ....My 3 siblings and I all grew up listening to the Young brothers, the third track Big Jack reminds me of the Back in Black days. Big Jack , has all the hallmarks of a really good AC/DC song. Using that high note licking and riffing, a back beat rhythm making the coolest of us head-bang! War Machine and Smash and Grab , the production on both of these tracks are great. Actually the whole album feels quite fresh. Spoilin' For A fight , is by far the most typical sounding AC/ DC signature bluesy swagger and sway they are known for. Decibel is good song , very old school in its design. The vocals through are great , a little strained on some of the higher reaching notes.
Stormy May Day has a bluesy rootsy guitar crunch , a bit gritty and dirty. That is what rock and roll is all about isn't it ? "She Likes Rock And Roll" , and "Money Made" is probably why the band started playing music....So they could "Live The Rock N Roll Dream". I dare say after this tour the band will have achieved all their dreams , "Rocking All The Way" a really cool song with the licks and riffs all in the right spots , you can't help but sing along. The band has never been on thin ice with their fans , "Black Ice" will be no different . The Band has proven once again that they are a steadfast and important part whats new in music today. AC/DC tunes will live in the ipods of the future , right up there with Led Zeppelin, The Stones and Aerosmith.
Rock and roll legends AC/DC perform Friday Night at GM Place .
